So what has Gearbox got in store for us this time around. Borderlands 2 picks up five years after the opening of the vault and, with Handsome Jack (new bad guy) claiming the credit and the loot from the vault allowing him to buy the Hyperion Corporation, you can bet Pandora is in for a rough time. You step in as one of the four new characters to reap some revenge on Jack for ripping you off and leaving you for dead on the frozen tundra. With the scene set it’s time to kick ass, Borderlands style and the list of additions to the first is impressive.
The weapons system has received a huge overhaul with a number of different class mods, artifacts and the new Eridium enhancements expanding the opportunities for some serious mayhem. One of the new weapon types allows the player to empty the clip and then throw the empty gun at the enemy for more damage which then reloads the same gun you now have back in your hand. (Don’t over think it, it makes no sense, it just means more killing) A caveat to this is that the more rounds in the clip when you throw the gun, the greater the damage inflicted. The choice will be yours how to use it. One of the new characters’ ability two dual wield any weapon types will also make for some interesting gameplay.
The visual feel of Borderlands is retained but as you will see on the Borderlands 2 release date, the playable areas are now everywhere that you can see and the ‘Oh look, more rocks’ feel of the original is now replaced by a swag of new terrain. From arctic tundra to the corrosive caverns, you can explore and decimate by yourself, in four player online co-op, splitscreen or even via LAN (yeah it’s still around). All types of gameplay have received massive attention to ensure that whatever mode you play in, the experience will be ultimately rewarding and, replayable. Also, based on the first game, I would expect a mass of downloadable content to further expand your gaming fun.
Gaming geeks and Role Playing Shooter fans, the long wait is nearly over, so wait with baited breath for the Borderlands 2 release date on 18 Sep. It’s everything you loved from the original, and a whole lot more.
